Professor Owl’s Book Corner’s main goal has always held true since we started this newsletter ten years ago.  That goal was to help promote books, literacy, and activities for children with special needs. We hope to assist children and young adults with learning and health challenges, believe that anything possible.  We hope to show examples of how some young people have achieved their dreams. We also want to share resources of where to get the tools by  showcasing organizations that are available to you.

See our community boards ~ where we try to find organizations and hospitals that are there to help you with virtual events  while we wait for things to get back to normal after Covid 19.

We also share tips for those of you with dyslexia, the video below  illustrates how you can get help from your teachers, libraries and other organizations. If reading is where you need help, you will see they suggest audiobooks and other tools to help you with your reading challenges.

If you are older, you can perhaps go to your teachers yourself,  if you are younger watch the video with your parents and they can perhaps talk with your teachers.   From now on we will share books we review and give links to stores and libraries.

We are here for you! ~ if you have any questions just drop us a line at professorowl@outlook.com  and we will try our best to get the answers for you.

book-of-the-month

This month’s book is a new book release, the previous two in this series were published a few years ago.  I really enjoyed reading these books so much, that I just had to share it with our readers in the Book Corner.

 BRIDGE OF SOULS

Cover of Bridge of Souls

by Victoria Schwab (Author)

Victoria (“V. E.”) Schwab, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, invites readers to haunted New Orleans in this third instalment of her thrillingly spooky City of Ghosts series!

Where there are ghosts, Cassidy Blake follows . . .

Unless it’s the other way around?

Cass thinks she might have this ghost-hunting thing down. After all, she and her ghost best friend, Jacob, have survived two haunted cities while travelling for her parents’ TV show.

But nothing can prepare Cass for New Orleans, which wears all of its hauntings on its sleeve. In a city of ghost tours and tombs, raucous music and all kinds of magic, Cass could get lost in all the colourful, grisly local legends. And the city’s biggest surprise is a foe Cass never expected to face: a servant of Death itself.

Another atmospheric setting, this time New Orleans, adds an even creepier edge to the story than even Edinburgh or Paris.  I found the way the cities are described, makes one feel that you are right there in the story. I know Edinburgh very well, and recognised the street mentioned, and felt that I was actually walking down the streets of the City.

I  have also read the previous two books in this series and really enjoyed everything about them.  This book did not disappoint me either in fact, it is my favourite of the three.  They all make one want to keep reading until the books are finished.  I highly recommend them for middle-grade readers or for older people like me.   I really do hope this is not the end of the series

This book and others by this author can be purchase from www.amazon.com, www.amazon.ca, www.Kobo.com  and other fine book stores and of course your Local Libraries.  Amazon also has this book as an audible, which would be great for the reader with Dyslexia, see the above video.

5 Myths for Worlds Down Syndrome Awareness Day” #WATWB

banner-520-x120-white WATB wide

The #WATWB was created as a mission to negate the overwhelming negativity that has been present in our social media streams. For every negative news story in the world, there are plenty of positive, uplifting stories that show hope, compassion and the resiliency of everyday people who face insurmountable challenges. Our hope is to share heartwarming stories that lift the human spirit.
The last Friday of every month bloggers will share their stories led by five co-hosts, this month’s co-host will be: Roshan Radhakrishnan, Shilpa Garg Sylvia McGrath, Eric Lahti and Belinda McGrath Witzenhausen.

At Professor Owl’s Book Corner we love to provide resources for young adults (13+) with special needs, chronic illness and learning challenges.  We came across this video on March 21st which was #WorldDownSyndromeDay, and felt we needed to share. Click below to hear actor and Mencap ambassador George Webster dispel five myths about Down’s Syndrome.

The Tales of Valisa:

The Tamiran Elves Legacy:

by Sai Marie Johnson  (Author)

The Tales of Valisa: the Tamiran Elves Legacy debut book entitled, The Rebellious Princess, is about a young elven princess who grows bored with the monotony of life around her. With a desire for adventure, and a need to find an old friend, Irek of Grevacia, Princess Analise Alehandra Tamira embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Unbeknownst to Analise her father, Lord Marcus Scipio has many enemies lying past the veil lands in the Qaterlain. Soon Analise finds herself lost within the Draconic city of Akirex’Xal where a barbaric King, Oarxxas Va’ie takes her captive. Will Queen Tri’Shena, and King Marcus ever see their beloved daughter again? Find out in this premiere book in the Tamiran Legacy series.

I found the book really enjoyable with great characters and story line. It was very well written with each chapter holding my attention right up to the very last page.  I would certainly be reading more books by this writer.

I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review this book which I am sure both middle grades and young adults will love it.
