May marks Stroke Recovery Awareness Month

Every ten minutes a Canadian will have a stroke. There are over 300,000 stroke survivors in Canada. Stroke affects not only the survivor, but the entire family, loved ones and friends. Everyone has to learn to adjust to the ‘new normal’ which may include permanent physical disability, communication disorders such as aphasia and emotional difficulties, including depression.

Stroke Recovery Canada®, a program of March of Dimes Canada, helps stroke survivors across the country to more easily re-engage in their communities, and affirm that there is meaningful and quality life after a stroke.

Piercing Through the Darkness

Emerald Barnes (Author)

pttd-finalbookofweek 90514

Kindle Edition CDN$2.18

Paperback Edition CDN$8.50

Product Description

It’s on the edge of her memory like a word on the tip of her tongue, but Kandi can’t remember what it is to save her life.

Despite being a cop, Jimmy can’t protect Kandi from the one thing that haunts her. She’s in danger and doesn’t even know it. After it happened, her brain repressed her memories of the accident, and now, she’s taking a Biology class under a man who wants to see her dead. The memories have started coming back, and it feels like she’s miles away from him. How can he protect her when she doesn’t even know she needs protecting?

Can these characters pierce their way through the darkness?

This is an incredible little jewel of a story! Full of suspense and intrigue, the story follows young college student Kandi Moore as she slowly learns that the dark, suppressed memories trapped inside of her have put her in incredible danger.

We get inside the head of her Biology teacher, who has every reason to hate Kandi. The reason why almost brought me to tears…I felt so sorry for him. But at the same time, I couldn’t help but sympathize with Kandi and I was rooting for her to break free of the darkness. The romantic sideline to the story was beautiful, and brought a much needed calm to the overall storm of the story.

Both moving and thrilling, Piercing Through the Darkness is a novella that showcases Ms. Barnes’ storytelling ability and it definitely makes me want to read more from her.

Oath of the Brotherhood

Author ~ C.E. Laureano

Kindle edition CDN$ 9.99

Paperback edition CDN$12.99

Product Description

In a kingdom where the Old Ways hold fast and a man’s worth lies entirely in his skill with the sword, Conor Mac Nir is a scholar, a musician, and a follower of the forbidden Balian faith: problematic for any man, but disastrous for the son of the king. When Conor is sent as a hostage to a neighboring kingdom, he never expects to fall in love with the rival king’s sister, Aine. Nor does he suspect his gift with the harp (and Aine’s ability to heal) touches on the realm of magic. Then his clan begins a campaign to eliminate all Balians from the isle of Seare, putting his newfound home in peril and entangling him in a plot for control of the island that has been unfolding since long before his birth. Only by committing himself to an ancient warrior brotherhood can Conor discover the part he’s meant to play in Seare’s future. But is he willing to sacrifice everything—even the woman he loves—to follow the path his God has laid before him?

C.E. Laureano writes an enthralling story of fantasy mixed with a wonderful touch of romance that will keep the reader turning the pages well into the night.  I highly recommend this story.
