The extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller that was in movie theaters on November 15, 2013, Markus Zusak”s unforgettable story is about the ability of books to feed the soul. It is 1939. Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will become busier still. Liesel Meminger is a foster girl living outside of Munich, who scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist-books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement. In superbly crafted writing that burns with intensity, award-winning author Markus Zusak, author of I Am the Messenger, has given us one of the most enduring stories of our time. A must read for teens.

Fabulous read. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. Gave incredible insight to what it must have been like to live through such frightful times.

Desperate to find a cure for polio, a highly contagious, disabling and sometimes fatal disease, volunteers went door-to-door in their neighbourhood’s, collecting donations for the March of Dimes. But long after the vaccine’s discovery, women and men continue the annual marches. The funds initially assisted polio survivors, but today they support a wide range of vital services for adults and children with physical disabilities across Canada. Children with polio

Justin has performed across the globe, throughout Europe, China, the Middle East, South Africa and North America. He performed at the Beijing Olympics supported by Sheila E, the Vancouver Olympics and the Pan Am Games in Mexico. The Time Stones: Book 1 [Kindle Edition]

Roberta Tombaugh (Author), Marina Tombaugh

The Time Stones-crop

Kindle Price: CDN$9.14

The Time Stones story begins when college student Sarabeth Steinbrenner inherits a rock-crystal pendant bearing an uncanny resemblance to the Viking artifacts called the Visby Lenses. Her unique pendant, however, harbors a mysterious power capable of transporting her and her friends back through time. With this ancestral pendant in hand, Sarabeth begins her journey to the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World in search of clues to a hidden Eighth Wonder … and its treasures. But she must first unlock the secrets of the pendant and uncover the clues to her ancestral treasure before her efforts are foiled by an unexpected adversary.

Discovered in 11th century Viking graves, the real Visby Lenses possess amazing optical properties that are almost as accurate as those of modern-day lenses. First studied in detail in the 1990s, the Visby Lenses are largely a mystery to scientists, considering the mathematical knowledge and the technology to craft them was thought unknown at the time the lenses were made.

This is a wonderful story that keeps the reader wanting more as you start a treasure hunt throughout history. It is an imaginative and easy read —

I loved the suspense and the history. A must read for any student and a great way, to learn about the 7 wonders of the world as they existed many years ago. I recommend it highly for people interested in history and geography.

Every time I read this book I learn something new. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!!!

Flame: A Sky Chasers Novel

By Amy Kathleen Ryan

CDN$ 15.87 Hardcover

CDN$ 10.99 Kindle

In the thrilling conclusion to Amy Kathleen Ryan’s Sky Chasers series, Waverly, Kieran, and Seth struggle to survive on-board the New Horizon–and take down their enemies before it’s too late

Waverly and the other members of the Empyrean have been scattered, and their home ship destroyed. Their mission to rescue their parents didn’t go as planned, and now they’re at an even greater disadvantage: trapped with their enemies on the New Horizon, trying to find a way to survive. Kieran has been pulled under Anne Mather’s wing, but is she really trying to make peace, or just using Kieran to build her own power? Meanwhile, Waverly is taken in by a mysterious old man who wants to help her bring Anne Mather down–but the more Waverly cooperates with him, the more dangerous her position is, and the more at odds with Kieran she becomes. Seth’s situation is even worse. After setting out from the Empyrean on his own, with only a vague strategy to guide him, he is a fugitive aboard the New Horizon. He’s doing what he can to challenge the power of Anne Mather, but he’s badly hurt, and getting sicker. All the while, unknown to him, the terrorist Jacob is making plans of his own. Will Seth ever see Waverly again? Will his health hold out long enough to help her topple their enemies? And will Waverly find a way to unite with her friends before they all fall? Nothing is sure and every moment is a risk in “Flame,” “”the explosive finale of the Sky Chasers series.
