Help children with disabilities
enjoy our national pastime…
and have your gift double!
What is a Skate Horse? It is an apparatus to assist children with disabilities to learn to skate and is the brain child of Tim Moore who invented and designed it under the March of Dimes Canada (MOC) DesignAbility® program.
The program offers volunteers with skills and imagination the opportunity to develop custom-built solutions and modifications to challenges that can be faced by children and adults living with mobility issues – such as learning to skate.
Tim, an Ottawa DesignAbility® volunteer, received a request from a mother of a 3-year-old that has Muscular Dystrophy. She needed a device to support her son as he learned how to skate. The result is such a simple yet helpful solution that we can see assisting many more children and adults in learning how to skate.
Doug Harvey-Smith is a hard-working volunteer in our DesignAbility® program and Chair of the Ottawa Chapter since 2003. He loves to help people and when he saw the Skate Horse, he knew he had to jump on the opportunity to see this practical, yet fun assistive device become an integral piece of arena equipment.
March Of Dimes need your help today to make sure this opportunity becomes a reality.
Your donation today will have double the impact – now you can help make sure everyone has a chance to enjoy the small, but important pleasures that help make life gratifying.
To add even more impact to your donation, Doug has very graciously offered to match donations totaling up to $6,000 so MODC can purchase the Skate Horse for use in arenas around Ontario as a start, and then eventually, across Canada.
On behalf of children with disabilities who want to get out, have fun and enjoy life with family and friends, thank you for caring and sharing.

P.S. Doug is matching gifts to $6000 because, “The skate Horse is a perfect way of making sure all children have the opportunity to be involved with one of our nation’s favourite, winter pastimes, and it brings attention to an important program offered by March of Dimes. It also offers people the chance to help those living with disabilities.” Winter and the skating season will quickly be upon us so please generously today.Th
