This a magical book telling the story of a little girl experiencing a beautiful summer day from the moment she wakes up until the time she goes to sleep at night.

The story begins on a hot summer day, the little girl finds ways to entertain herself and stay cool. She catches a butterfly, sips lemonade, jumps in a pool, and goes on a picnic. At night, she sees an owl in a tree and a frog in a pond, and hears leaves rustling. Before long, she’s fast asleep, dreaming about more summer days and summer night.

This story is told in gently rhyming verse, reading this book for adults is like experiencing a summer day as a child all over again, where the world was full of wonder and magic and things to witness and explore.

The size of this book is perfect for little hands! Read this with your kids and it just might give you some ideas of fun things to do together this summer

The illustrations are lovely, there is just the right amount of words and it does a wonderful job of explaining a season of the year.

The author includes some time outdoors in the evening-most children’s stories end when the sun goes down but this one continues on so the child can experience an owl, the moonlight, and shadows.

As with his earlier books featuring this spunky little girl, Wong Herbert Yee’s focus is on appreciating the small but special details that define a season. I look forward to Yee’s other books
